The last time I saw the Navigator,
See ya Bro!
Post Script:
On one of our transports from Kansas City
to St Louis, one of our passengers was a senior Papillon now named Nicky.
Kevin was so enamored with Little Nicky that he held him during the entire
trip across Missouri. Little did either of us know at the time that Little
Nicky was due to be famous. Below is a picture of a magazine cover
honoring Little Nicky and I'm sure that Kevin is smiling from the
Bridge.
Here is the bio that was sent in with Little Nicky's picture that won him the award: Nicky was rescued from a shelter in Chicago.
We believe a family whose parent had died dumped him there; it was
certainly obvious that this sweet boy
missed someone very, very much. Nicky went into foster care in MN and then a medical emergency necessitated the movement of Nicky and another foster Pap to alternate foster care. We were called about Nicky and were told that we would fall in love with him. It was a just a warning, but somehow Lisa Bakalars knew. Nicky was transported from MN to MO by a series of wonderful rescue folks and arrived at our home (without a name) on Dec. 21, a loving, sweet quiet boy. He stole our hearts on the first night when Jim said "oh let him sleep with us in the bedroom." After all, we had fostered 19 other Paps and never have they slept in the bedroom. Well from there it was history. We fell in love with this sweet smooshy boy and he has stolen our hearts. First step was to give him a name and since he
arrived just days before Christmas, he was named Nicky after St.
Nicolas. We soon added the “Little” to honor or vet, Dr. Michael
Little, for the wonderful care he has given all of our Pap
rescues.
Nicky not only stole his foster mom and dad’s
hearts, but those of his new foster siblings as well. Shingle Belle
the Lab would kiss him often; and Manta Rae the Aussie/Fox would share her
couch with him-which she NEVER did with the 19 other fosters. Even
Brittnay Sue the cat did not terrorize him as she has done with every
other foster—that alone was a positive sign. Nicky just fell into
the personality, lifestyle and mood of our home like he had always been
there. It all came together like Nicky just belong to the Hamilton
Pack.
The true deciding factor was after Nicky had his
dental and surgery to remove some benign fatty tumors. Nursing him
back to health was the true bonding experience. That is when we
called Lisa and asked to be Nicky’s forever home.
Nicky has really started to display his full
pappy-ness. He does not give us pappy ‘face kisses’ but he will
occasionally kiss our hands. He does the pappy wiggle and spin when
he sees us come home-especially his daddy. He follows his daddy
everywhere and cries when his daddy is out of his site. Nicky LOVES
to go anywhere and has even gone to work and Bible study with his
mom.
Nicky has many cute antics like the way he will
carry his lead in his mouth, and the way he will sit up straight with his
front paws spread wide and held high in the air just begging to have his
chest scratched. Nicky’s most spectacular behavior is his
HUGGING. He will just wrap his front paws around your neck and lay
his head by your chin. This hug, along with his very gentle nature,
makes for the perfect therapy dog. Since his sibling Shingle Belle
is already trained and certified AKC-CGC, Nicky is the perfect addition to
the therapy team.
Nicky is our little butterfly angel sent from
heaven, and we are very blessed that he chose us to be his FOREVER
HOME.
